Frequently asked questions
When should I book my newborn photo session?
Babies change so quickly at this age. You want to make sure you capture and preserve the unique beauty and innocence that only a newborn has. I also highly recommend a few pics to capture the special feelings and interactions between a new mum and bub in those first few days. A newborn portrait is one of the special gifts you will be able to give your child. I try to photograph newborns before they are two weeks old (ideally between day 6-14) while they are still pretty sleepy. They change so much in those first few weeks so the earlier the better.
It is never too early to book your newborn session. Contact me while you are pregnant and we will book a tentative date based on your due date. Then, as soon as you are home with your newborn, contact me and we will confirm a suitable time and date. I am typically booked 4 to 6 weeks out but I will always try to fit last minute requests into my schedule.
I’m worried about cleanliness for my baby
All wraps, blankets and props are cleaned between each photo session using baby- friendly cleaners and detergents.
How do I pick a theme for the photo shoot?
After you book your newborn photo session, we will set up a time for a phone chat. This gives us time to talk about what themes or props and colour schemes you have in mind and how we can incorporate them into the photo shoot. There are lots of examples in the photo gallery section of our website to help get the creative ideas ticking over. The choices can be overwhelming but don’t worry – we will work on this together.
The studio and all the props and wraps will be ready and waiting for when you arrive. You will also have time to look through my collection of props to see if there is anything else you’d like to add to the session. It’s also a nice touch if you can bring something personal from home that we can use. Maybe you have a special baby blanket or hat you would like include the photos.
Can I order prints from you?
Absolutely! We use a top-notch professional photo printing and framing service that we have used for years and we have been extremely happy with their craftsmanship. We love looking at the pictures of your precious baby and we’re happy to help you pick out a few favourites to have printed.
If you want to arrange your own prints, all digital orders include a print release for unlimited personal use.
You have two options to pick from for your newborn photo shoot;
Option 1: You can come to my Bridgeman home studio. At my home studio I have a wide selection of props and wraps for you to pick from and a comfy chair for you to chill out in and feed your bub while listening to relaxing music and enjoying fresh coffee and light refreshments.

Option 2: I can bring my mobile studio and props to your home. I will bring the three themed props and wraps with me that we have chosen during our pre-session consultation, along with all the professional studio lighting, cameras and lens need to capture beautiful newborn images in the comfort and privacy of your own home. You may have a special baby crib or chair that you would like to include in the images as well.

Yes! We have heaps of wraps, baskets, wreathes, hats and headbands, crates and bowls to pick from, but if you have a special baby blanket or outfit you want to include in the images, please bring them along. How long will my session take?
The aim to not only to create great images but also to create beautiful memories. We’ll take our time setting up themes and props and enjoying cuddling and posing your adorable baby.
A newborn photo shoot will take between two and three hours, depending on how cooperative the star is! This gives up plenty of time for to change props and themes and for feeding and nappy change breaks.
How do I receive my images?
We always post a “sneak peek” to Facebook and Instagram the day after your session and you will be able to view the low resolution samples within two or three days. Once you make your final selection, allow three or four day us for to complete the professional editing. You can receive your images by downloading them via a secure, private link we will email you or we can send them to you on a USB thumb drive.
What if I have to reschedule?
We want you to enjoy your photo session and for mum and bub to be at their best. If either of you are not feeling well, please let us know as early as possible so we can reschedule your session. Life happens and babies are unpredictable and we will always to our best to make the session time as convenient and enjoyable as possible.
Do I need to prepare for the photo session?
Once we have tentatively scheduled your newborn photo session, I will send you a short list to help you prepare for the day. Following the simple steps will help you be organised and ready for this exciting experience!
What if I don’t want props for my session?
Simple, uncluttered, timeless and classic. I love it!
What do I wear?
Simple patterns or solids colours in neutral earth tones work really well. If you can send me a picture of what you and any other parents or siblings are planning to wear a few days before the session, I can make sure it enhances the colour palette and textures we have chosen for the newborn portrait theme. For the mum, off the shoulder, comfortable and loose tops or dresses are great.
